We were told to do one thing when we got here: ONE THING. We were told to not go out at night, because that is when people go missing and turn up missing all their blood. If we obeyed that one simple thing, then we'd all be fine.

And what did he do.

What does the Earl do the first night we arrived?

He goes out, and he got attacked. Of course.

It is incredibly difficult to recover your health when you're ACTIVELY PUTTING YOURSELF IN HARM'S WAY.

That's the rumor. Apparently, they burned a woman at the stake five hundred years ago for vampirism, so the locals think she's back from the grave.

Does that kind of thing happen a lot where you come from?

Not really. Well, people getting killed happens all the time, but this is the first time I've seen where people seriously thought it was from something supernatural.

That's true. I suppose with no human culprit apparent, it's easier to blame the supernatural.

Especially since people don't usually lose all their blood for no reason.

Very true. I wonder what is causing that -- it seems as though there are much easier ways to kill, if that's the only goal.

Maybe they want everyone to think they're a vampire.

Get people scared, maybe? Or maybe he needs the blood for some kind of arcane demonic ritual. You'd have to ask him.

Magic is something I'm more personally acquainted with. And frankly, a lot of people do things to try to cast spells, even when magic doesn't really exist in their world.

I suppose that's true. Even if it meant sacrificing so many people...already, there's nine dead women.

There are lots of people who think nothing of killing to get what they want.

That's true. I know it is, and yet it's still horrific to think that someone would kill for such petty reasons.

Unless they think magic is real, and therefore whatever they're doing is of vital importance.

Maybe. Still, add to that that they'd be covering it up as vampires, and the whole thing just becomes incredibly mad.
